On our way down we traversed Boston which was exciting with cool bridges and a long tunnel! We stopped in Cape Cod, arriving late, in a crazy wild windy stormy afternoon and of course, Gareth thought it was ideal for a kite surf! The boys and I walked to the nearest little cafe area and had a hot chocolate and treats while Gareth got whipped around in the waves by his kite. When we returned to the beach, it was dark and he was cold but had a huge grin on his face! Cape Cod was empty of tourists and it was eery walking in the streets of what felt like a beach ghost town. Very pretty though.
We arrived at Frani and Bucky's place later in the afternoon the following day and received a very warm welcome. They were kind enough to host us for a couple days while we took the train to go and see Manhattan! We would surely have not been able to see the Big Apple if it wasn't for Bucky and Frani as the truck and trailer just wouldn't have made it in the crazy traffic!
Manhattan was so cold the day we chose to visit. Records in low temperature we kept being told by the locals! We started off by taking a Circus Line Boat Tour around the island itself. That was really a cool way to see NY from an outside view (and the boat was toasty warm).
after that we grabbed the subway to the American Natural History Museum. It was crowded and the boys were tired of walking and the hustle and bustle but we had some quality time there. Of special interest the exhibit of Human Origins and the Hall of Dinosaurs!
After that we went to Time Square. It was very busy and boys like the M&M store (the price was outrageous though and I may or may not have had a mini fit about how much they charge for a bag of M&M's and may or may not have embarrassed the boys...)
Then, (and this was my favourite part) we discovered that we were late getting the last train out to return to Connecticut and so we had to run -I don't know how many blocks, a lot!- to Grand Central Station! That was really fun and Charlie and Gareth may or may not have almost got hit by a cab...ooops!
I was surprised at how excited I was to see the Statue of Liberty!
Our lovely hosts Frani and Bucky! Their house was so interesting filled with really cool clocks and amazing decorations, felt like an art galery! Frani is a true artist!
On our second day to visit Manhattan, we opted to not visit Manhattan again. It was chaotic and cold and we were exhausted from day 1. Plus, Rowayton where we were staying looked amazing and pretty. Boys and Gareth went for a hike with Frani and Bucky and their cool friends Marty and his wife (i was sick that day so spent it in bed :() . Boys got treated by our hosts to going to Sky Zone trampoline place in the afternoon, which they just loved.
